Mars 2012

Seminar : Thursday 1st March
Loïc Le Marrec, lecturer in Mathematics, University of Rennes 1
Title : Actual dynamic properties of discrete heterogeneous environments : approach and limitations of multicasting models
A discrete heterogeneous environment consists of two distinct phases. For high frequency dynamic problems, the methods of multicasting take into account the geometric and material properties of both phases : the effective properties are then obtained only by considering various realizations of the disorder. This methodology can be applied to different phenomena ; here, an acoustic and elastic-dynamic problem will act as a 2D support.
The explicit and implicit theoretical developments will be presented at various levels in order to obtain the classical models of Foldy, Loyd Berry or Waterman-Truell. In each case, attention will focus on the assumptions of these models.
Numerical simulations will hep compare these models to summary measures. This will be an opportunity to discuss limitations and the possible extensions of these problems.
