Florence HABETS, laureate of Norbert Gerbier-Mumm prize awarded by the WMO

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), at the opportunity of the annual meeting of its executive council, has awarded its most prestigious award and other prizes to several eminent scientists for their outstanding contribution to meteorology, climatology, hydrology and related disciplines. The executive council has awarded the 2011 Norbert Gerbier-Mumm international prize to J.-P. Vidal, E. Martin, L. Franchistéguy, F. Habets, J. M.Soubeyroux, M. Blanchard and M. Baillon, all French scientists, for their paper entitled : "Multi-level and Multi-scale Drought Reanalysis over France with the Safran-Isba-Modcou hydrological suite", published in Hydrology Earth System Sciences Discussions in 2009 (Vol. 6, No. 5).

April 2010 : Seminar on water system modelling

Last 22nd and 23rd April, the "Water system modelling" seminar gathered about a hundred participants ; it was the opportunity to celebrate the 30th anniversary of MODCOU, a software for "ground-underground" coupled modelling, initiated and developed by E. Ledoux, project leader at the Geosciences department.

The first day was mainly used to review various applications of this software in the fields of engineering, operational forecasting in collaboration with Météo-France or perspective planning in the context of a possible climate change.

The second day was more oriented towards new applications such as "integrated modeling", currently under development in various organisms (CEMAGREF, CNRM of Météo-France, BRGM, INRA, MINES ParisTech ...).
