OBJECTIVES: Description and modeling of the spatial variability of the variable of interest from experimental data.


  • Experimental variogram: experimental quantification of data variability (later taken into account at modeling stage), calculation methods of this experimental variogram in the case of regular or irregular sampling;
  • Modeling: structural geostatistical analysis, quantification of the studied phenomenon spatial variability (anisotropies, correlation distances, nested scales of variability);
  • Concept of variogram model: importance of variogram fitting and consequences of the model choice on the variable properties, meaning of the model parameters;
  • Regularization: combining data from different sample size; its consequences on modeling;
  • Dispersion Variance: quantification of variable dispersion in a finished field, based on its geometry and its size; application to homogenization stockpiles.

Prerequisite: solid background in mathematics.
