In the environmental field, the Department is conducting natural resources and pollutions characterization works to understand anthropogenised systems and environments.

The issues address :

  • the research of relationships between observed variables and "explanatory" parameters ;
  • the exploitation of these relationships to improve the accuracy of the estimates ;
  • and the confrontation of the forecasts provided by the phenomenological models to measurements made in some stations.

In this respect, geostatistical techniques are then almost automatically used, and the comparison of concentrations to a single quality level involves the implementation of nonlinear estimators.
