Located in Fontainebleau, the Geosciences and Geoengineering Department (a research center common to MINES ParisTech and ARMINES) focuses on research and education in the field of Earth and Environmental Science.

Research is focused on three major issues : supply of mineral resources - hydrocarbon - geothermy ; the effect of anthropisation - underground storage of energy or wastes ; and the impacts of climate change - water resources - natural hazards - geomorphology.

The department is divided into six research units and  three support services that cover most of Earth Science topics. It benefits from fully equipped laboratories.

In addition to its research activities, the department also manages higher education programs, thought the Master Degree in Science and Executive Engineering, PhD programs (accredited in doctoral schools) as well as specialized and continuing trainings.
